Lead In/Out Options in Thread Mill
Views
New options in the Lead In/Out page of the 2D Toolpaths – Thread Mill dialog box add tool manufacturer-recommended helical functionality. The new options also provide control over cutter compensation and overriding entry speeds and feeds. The new options are as follows:
-
Standard: Enables access to legacy Lead In/Out parameters and is the default option for new and legacy files.
-
Arc clearance: Sets the distance between the tool and the thread. Entry/exit arc clearance indirectly sets the entry/exit arc radius. If this value is larger than the maximum value for ID threads, the entry/exit arcs start and end at the center of the thread. This option is unavailable for the Gradual Lead In/Out type.
-
Arc sweep: Specifies an arc angle for helical entry/exit motion. This option is unavailable for the Gradual Lead In/Out type.
-
Perpendicular entry/exit: Enters and exits the toolpath using a linear motion that is perpendicular to the first and last tool moves.
-
Gradual: This strategy allows the user to engage the radial depth of a Thread Mill operation through a helical motion which gradually engages the tool throughout a 180-degree arc sweep. Throughout the arc sweep motion, the tool will engage 1/2 pitch deep before achieving full radial and axial thread depths.
-
Engagement percentage: Determines the tool’s distance from the thread before engagement begins. This applies to the minor diameter for an ID thread and the major diameter for an OD thread.
-
Plunge after first move: Outputs a linear move at the feed plane before the cut. Use this move to engage cutter compensation. The Line length field specifies the line length.
-
Line length: Constructs a perpendicular line between the entry and exit arcs. To enable this option, uncheck Start at center and/or End at center.
