Use the new Tool edge feed rate checkbox to calculate the feed rate based on the tool’s tangential edge rather than on the centerline, as shown in the following image. In the image, the black circle is the tool tangential edge movement, the blue circle is the tool center movement, and the green circle is the tool.

The tool's tangential and centerline movement.

Also, when you activate Multi Passes with Tool edge feed rate, Mastercam adjusts the feed rate for the different diameters needed for multiple passes. This option also considers multiple diameters where you select holes with a range of diameters as input geometries. Find this option on the Tool page of the 2D ToolpathsThread Mill dialog box.

Following are some of the advantages of Tool edge feed rate:

  • Produces a more accurate feed rate based on the cutter diameter and the diameter of the hole being machined

  • Allows you to program Thread Mill operations with a higher level of accuracy, which helps achieve proper tool wear and a more efficient toolpath

  • Saves time by automatically calculating the proper feed rate for Thread Mill, rather than the need to manually calculate the feed rate at the edge of the tool’s diameter
