Mastercam 2027 introduces a modernized Machine Group Setup for Mill-Turn. This reimagined workflow reduces setup complexity and helps you get productive faster, building on the recent machine group redesign in Mill. It is more efficient, easier to understand, and designed to support future development.

The new interface guides users through a logical job setup workflow using panels that interact directly with the graphics window. When you enter the new Machine Group Setup, Mastercam displays the machine in its own viewsheet, giving you visual feedback at every stage. The new viewsheet provides this feedback without interfering with your existing work.

The new interface combines the former Files tab, Tool settings tab, and 13 individual Job Setup pages into one streamlined panel with 7 pages. New icons let you directly enter each individual page in one click from the Toolpaths Manager like you can in Mill. New status icons (as shown on the image below) let you know right away if certain pages are in an error condition.

Clear the Housing option on the new Machine page to display only the components in the work envelope. This lets you easily preview your machine configuration as you add components like chucks and jaws while you set up the part model and stock.

The machine housing option is shown on the Machine page. All other pages remove the housing, allowing better visibility of the machine components, stock, tooling, and part models.

The new Machine Configuration page combines three former Job Setup functions into a single page. You can load components from a configuration file, select chucks and jaws, add steady rests, and save your selections in a new configuration file without ever leaving the page.

When you enter the Setup Type page, Mastercam displays the machine in an isometric view that updates with the Initial Spindle selection so you can more easily visualize the selected Stock Type- Part Handling option. New icons for each part handling option enhance the experience.

When selecting the plane to be used for the work coordinate system, Mastercam now lets you create a new plane by clicking the highlighted button. Use the graphics window to locate and orient your plane by selecting points directly on your machine, part, or stock model, as desired. Mastercam saves the new plane in the Planes Manager. Not only does the new Planes page display all of the planes that Job Setup will generate (grouped as you specify), but you can select which planes to keep or discard (available in a later beta release).

The Planes page

Comprehensive Left Spindle and Right Spindle pages let you select the part model, create the stock definition, and generate turn profile and opposing-spindle geometry. The new Isolate geometry option clears the machine preview from the graphics window so you can easily select the part model.

The new Tools page includes the functionality of the former Tools tab but now displays the tools that are currently loaded in the machine group together with useful setup information. Click on column headings to sort the display, or click the buttons to open the Lathe Tool Manager or Mill Tool Manager so you can load additional tools.

For this release, Mastercam delivers the new Machine Group Setup for horizontal Mill-Turn machines, while laying the groundwork for future support for vertical (VTL/VTM) and Swiss machines.
