Tool Definition Enhancements

Mastercam 2027 expands tool definition capabilities designed to support a broader range of tools and applications. Mastercam adds support for tapered and reduced neck shank profiles for the following tool types:
- Radius mill
- Chamfer mill
- Slot mill
- Dove mill
- Engrave mill
- Tap
Access the new Shank type options on the Geometry page:
In addition, for slot mills and dove mills, you can now define a shank diameter that is larger than the cutting diameter. However, the shoulder diameter cannot be larger than the cutting diameter. This makes it easier to work with key cutters and similar applications.
The tool definition for reamers has also been enhanced. Previously, reamers could be defined with a 45-degree chamfer at the tip. Now you can specify any chamfer angle for the tip, plus you can specify a taper angle for the overall cutting portion.
In addition, Mastercam now supports a broader range of center drills. Type A center drills have always been supported, but Mastercam 2027 introduces support for Type B (chamfer profile) and Type R (radius profile) center drills.
The new Center drill type options are available on the Geometry page:
For Lathe 3D tools, users can now set default feed rate and cutting speed greater than 100%. You can find these settings on the Parameters page for your tool definition.
